My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness (Manga) - TV Tropes
It was well received by critics, one of whom called it a counterpoint to the " yuri fantasies" common to the genre, and was included on several lists of the best comics of the year, including the annual Kono Manga ga Sugoi! The manga is an autobiography following Kabi Nagata, a young woman, exploring subjects such as her mental health , her exploration of her sexuality, and her experience with growing up. She decided to do this because of a lack of work after she had become a manga artist, thinking that the only way for her to create something interesting that could earn her a living was to base her creation on her own experiences. The writing process involved her writing down things that have happened to her, and her feelings, in the form of a bulleted list , and rearranging the items to form a narrative. When writing, she strove towards neither lowering or glorifying herself, to avoid spreading too negative feelings and making readers unable to relate to the stories. She said that there were some things she "couldn't touch on" in the manga, that she would like to use in a future work.
Two Takes On My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness
My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata is a manga that chronicles her own struggles with mental illness, her burgeoning sexuality, employment, fulfillment, and everything that could string all those topics together. Megan Purdy and Kat Overland got together to chat about this relatable, adorable, and awkward comic. KO: This book was a wild ride from start to finish! I read it all in a sitting, because I was rooting hard for Kabi Nagata to find a big emotional catharsis, the lack of which actually made the book even more satisfying to get through. Somehow it felt simultaneously incredibly specific and infinitely relatable, despite not sharing a lot of experiences with her aside from, you know, depression and an attraction to women.
Her story is an open, honest, and deeply personal look at her struggles to fight back against her eating disorder, stop self-harming, and learn more about her sexuality. Club "It's impossible not to shed tears while reading this work; Nagata's unflinching honesty is courageous, but the reason it resonates is because it parses experiences many of her readers have, but have never been able to give voice to. Nagata gave voice to her experience and that has allowed her readers to realize they are not alone. Enhance your purchase.
